No you can't have my stuff
I'm not quitting as I love this game too much, but can't they just raise the price a few $ a month and then buy more hardware?
I'm sure if they said, "We want to invest a few million of $ directly into hardware." people wouldnt mind.
Also a fee increase doesn't have to be permanent, if you are concerned about that--why not just a six month raise?
Next, if 5,000 people left because of the price increase--OH WELL! That decreases lag and the revenue is still the same because of the price increase... 5000 fewer people is less petitions, less griefing, etc etc!
uuhhhh.....no.
What you are asking for is bad business. Raise the price so people leave? You're asking the company to shoot themselves in the foot.
The last figure I can find on number of subscriptions is 100k and that was from Feb. It's now Sept so I think it's safe to assume at least 15-20k new subscriptions.
I will do this in USD because it's easiest for me.
120,000 * 14.99 * 12 = $21,585,600
So what you're saying is that over $21million USD a year (and keep in mind it increases with number of subscribers) in revenue isn't enough money to not only pay for new hardware regularly, but also to pay people to code the bugs out of the software?
CCP is already making a killing off subscriptions. It seems that they need to look more into software optimizations and not look at throwing money or silly little band-aids at the problem. They're adding content without putting enough effort into fixing the problems. I realize the content people are a different department and all, but honestly, reroute those funds into FIXING the game before breaking it further with new stuff.
I wonder how much more CPU overhead their silly little queue system has added to the cluster in an attempts to actually relieve it? They added stuff that has to watch CPU usage constantly and then automatically add a queue to gates. That uses CPU as well.
This has turned kinda rantish so I'll stop now.
$20,000,000 in business terms is not alot of money, whatsoever. That covers a small base of permanent staff. I wouldnt like to be the one who has to manage the books at ccp put it that way. I would imagine whether people believe it or not, that ccp are still a small company, and their finances are very much a balancing act right now.
